Riverside County Code And Others Conduct Community Cleanup / Hemet | 04.14.2022

HEMET, CA | 04.14.2022 | On Thursday, April 14th, the County of Riverside Code Enforcement, with the support from Riverside County Sheriff's, Waste Management and multiple homeless outreach teams, commenced a community cleanup on an alleyway between Marine Drive & East Florida Drive located in the City of Hemet.

Upon receiving multiple reports to the county regarding the area of being an eyesore to the public, concerns were raised due to a spike in burglaries in garages that were adjacent to the homeless encampment. In the weeks before the cleanup was conducted, Code Enforcement and multiple homeless outreach teams including the HOPE Team and Operation Safehouse, offered support for the transients, who later refused the help.

The morning of, before cleanup began, the outreach teams were available once more. Waste Management had brought a multi-ton waste bin with additional waste trucks and manpower to assist in the scheduled cleanup. As cleanup started, a broke down van and multiple make-shift shacks were cleared from the alley including multiple tons of trash. A lot, located adjacent to the alley, was also filled with trash, however the property owner of the field had their own cleanup crew to clear the area.

Currently, "No Dumping" signs have been added and according to County of Riverside Code Enforcement, transients have slowly been locating back to the area.
