Vegetation Fire Causes Structural Threats, Displaces Dozens of Residents / Jurupa Valley | 06.17.2022
JURUPA VALLEY ,CA |6.17.22| On early Friday evening,The Riverside County Fire Department were dispatched to reports of a Vegetation Fire on Limonite and El Palomino Drive in Jurupa Valley in the Riparian River Bottom.
As Riverside County firefighters arrived, the first engine observed a small fire in heavy fuels with an immediate threat to a nearby neighborhood , a retirement home, a nearby Rite-Aid and the Jurupa Valley Spectrum Mall. RSO responded to block the nearby streets and to assist with evacuations as well as mutual aid from Riverside City FD, Corona FD, San Bernardino County FD as well as aircraft from the nearby Hemet-Ryan Attack base. Firefighters began an immediate aggressive attack on the fire to protect the nearby structures. The fire did extend to the Rite-Aid but firefighters were able to hold the fire to only the roof. Multiple buses from the Riverside Sheriff’s department as well as multiple armored vehicles from RSO and Corona PD were on standby to assist an evacuation of the retirement home if it was needed while S-2T Airtankers dropped retardant on the ground to give a defensive zone for the houses and the retirement home. The fire was contained at 5 acres and the cause is still under investigation.
