Stuck Vehicle Causes Large Brush Fire, Threatens Nearby Homes / Riverside | 11.21.2021
RIVERSIDE, CA | 11.21.2021 | On late Sunday morning at 11:29AM, City of Riverside Fire Department were dispatched to reports of a 2-Alarm vegetation fire, later called the "Arlanza Fire", that was caused by a nearby incident (non-injury vehicle accident), at Tyler St & Jurupa Ave in Riverside.
As Riverside City firefighters arrived, the first engine on scene was able to observe a large column of smoke due to strong wind speeds, this caused a high risk of structural threat to nearby homes and general living conditions. This additionally caused a request for a 3-Alarm, prompting mutual aid from nearby fire departments. CAL Fire / Riverside County Fire, Corona Fire, San Bernardino County Fire and other departments were requested.
Fire is confirmed to be caused by a vehicle that got snagged on a large mulch pile, all occupants of the vehicle were deemed safe by Riverside Police and suffered no injuries, officers conducted a thorough investigation and assisted them out of the fire zone. One firefighter is also said to have sustained injuries and was transported to a local hospital with stable conditions.
The Arlanza Fire is currently at 17 acres with 50% containment. Crews remain on scene for continued mop up with full containment expected in several days.
