Female Driver Entrapped After Being A Victim In A Wrong-Way Driver Crash / Mentone

Mentone, California — On Tuesday morning, April 11th, San Bernardino County Fire and Redlands Fire responded to a traffic collision with extrication on Highway 38, between Crafton Avenue and Plumwood Lane, in Mentone.

Emergency crews shut down Highway 38 after a box-truck collided with a pickup that crossed into oncoming traffic.

The driver of the pickup needed to be extricated after becoming trapped in the wreckage, and was rushed to the hospital with severe injuries. The driver of the box-truck suffered minor injuries and was later released from the scene after being treated by Redlands Fire at the crash site.

Diesel fuel was additionally leaking onto the roadway and traveling downhill, resulting in a Hazardous Materials incident.

The entire incident caused Highway 38 to be closed for several hours to allow crews to minimize an stop fuel leakage and also tow companies to clear the wreckage.
